Building explosive speed, strength, and power depends on multi-directional movement capability, controlled movement before explosive movement, unloaded movement before loaded movement, correct take-off and landing skills, agility, and plyometrics as well as overall, sound movement fundamentals. This fast-paced certification finds a balance between identifying and practicing solid technique, building in corrective work (e.g., mobility, stability, faulty motor patterns), strength, and power. Explosive speed and quickness is about timing and rhythm. Breaking down the skill, re-building it to its whole, and incorporating “deep practice” creates athleticism. The FMS Level 1 Course teaches how to administer the Functional Movement Screen, a rating and ranking system that captures mobility and motor control in seven fundamental movement patterns that are key to movement competency. The core focus of the movement screen is to emphasize movement quality over quantity, and to identify any movement deficiencies or limitations. Since the body is complex in nature and operates as a system, it is necessary to address movement patterns as a whole, rather than evaluating isolated joint measurements when trying to determine inefficiencies. You'll leave able to interpret the scoring system of the FMS and identify proper corrective exercises based on an individual’s FMS score. Sponosred by FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SYSTEMS

The hips and shoulders should be among the most mobile areas of the body, but they often lock up, creating a cycle of improper movement patterns and injuries. Normal functional activities, like walking, require extension, flexion, and rotation of the hips and shoulders. If this can’t occur the nervous system will alter the spine or the gait itself! Learn how to identify these patterns quickly and how to address these areas properly with self-myofascial release. SPONSORED BY 360 ATHLETICS INC

Kelly Starrett - "The Breath is King of the Brain": Mechanical Ventilation Efficiency and Power Development Part 1 (L)

In this featured session, Dr. Kelly Starrett, founder of mobilitywod.com and author of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestseller, “Becoming A Supple Leopard” shares his strategies to assess movement quality, spinal stability, unlock VO2 limitations, and improve down regulation strategies. This is part 1 of a 2 part session. The 2 hour practical component of this session is offered on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Peter Twist - Burning Calories Moving Slow™ (L + W/S)

The fitness industry often turns to obvious, fast movement patterns to burn calories - jumping, dancing, boot camps, etc. The uneducated client may demand this, believing they must be crushed by explosive exercise to achieve results. Ironically, pro athletes most capable of explosive moves know that fast is easy while slow is hard, using slow to build their strongest body. Fast exercise uses momentum, while slow tempo whole body drills recruit more musculature and demand greater effort and focus. For current clients and new prospects unsuitable for HIIT classes, Burning Calories Moving Slow™ removes the risk and cost of higher impact, speed-driven drills to deliver a more sustainable, inclusive, long term training solution with methods much gentler on joints yet harder on the muscles and brain.

Description
Incremental progression supported by rhythm, repetition, and “holding the stretch” improves myofascial elasticity and prepares the joints for increased range of motion. We'll experience sequences which help to improve posture and biomechanics by balancing muscle tone and rehabilitating the body’s natural ability to extend and contract. This gentle yet effective approach will help reduce stiffness and pain, increase flexibility, and strengthen the abdominal muscles, arms, legs, and back. The rhythm is slow, the stretching simple, the effect cumulative. Safe and methodical, this way of working also relieves body/mind tension and leaves participants feeling great.
